Paper Source, Chicago, Illinois
Founded in 1983, Paper Source has become the premier seller of fine handmade papers from around the world, offering over 1,000 different types of paper and tools and supplies through 25 retail locations, catalogs, and ecommerce. Since launching their Interchange site in 2005, they’ve seen great online sales growth. Recent work on the site includes:
• Development of a sophisticated Great Plains integration.
• The introduction and expansion of Adobe Scene7’s web to print integration which allows Paper Source to sell a large suite of customized products.
• Development of functionality that allows users to ship to multiple addresses per order, a popular component for shipping around the holidays. -
CityPass, Victor, Idaho
CityPass offers tourists discounted, pre-purchased tickets to top attractions in many of North America’s most exciting destinations. End Point has supported CityPass’s ecommerce operations since 2003. We have supported their growth in many ways, creating new features including scheduled future product offerings, downloadable e-tickets, customized shipping integration with UPS, private partner portals, PayPal support, search engine optimization, analytics, performance enhancements, a mobile site, customer opt-in SMS notifications, customer-contributed content features, advanced development environments, and security audits and remediation.

FragranceNet, Hauppauge, New York
FragranceNet (PINK: FGNT), is a top international retailer, specializing in perfumes, colognes, and related products. Our services for FragranceNet include operational support, system engineering and architecture, and application support and development. We overhauled their web hosting infrastructure, standardizing their server configurations and moving to a role-based strategy driven by the Puppet configuration management system. Subsequently, we built a parallel infrastructure utilizing cloud hosting services, driven by Puppet and custom Python-based cloud management tools, to provide a failover infrastructure for disaster recovery purposes. We’ve worked with FragranceNet’s engineers on performance testing, application design and architecture, and the organization of development environments, staging, and rollout processes.

The College District, Baton Rouge, Louisiana
CollegeDistrict.com supports multiple websites using a single system built by End Point on top of Interchange and PostgreSQL. Within a day, a new site with a unique visual theme can launch and sell new products immediately. The system currently hosts sites for various colleges such as TigerDistrict.com and GatorDistrict.com, custom ordering for organizations on GreekDistrict.com and ATODistrict.com, as well as non-college products on Fat-Shirts.com. End Point handles day-to-day support, server maintenance, and new development.

outside.in provides “hyperlocal” news and content services to bloggers, publishers, and individual consumers built on a complex architecture of cloud-based servers. End Point has managed the health and performance of their many PostgreSQL database instances, including configuration, backups, optimization, upgrades, and migrations. The I/O and reliability considerations that accompany working in the cloud affect database operations significantly, and our work has focused particularly on scaling the available storage systems to support the heavy traffic outside.in’s application serves.

The Providence Plan, Providence, Rhode Island
The Providence Plan is a nonprofit organization working to improve the economic and social well-being of city residents. Since 2009 End Point has served them in two roles: We help with architecture and support of their Linux system infrastructure, including application and database security. We also work with their in-house staff to develop their web application using Django, Python, and PostgreSQL. This has involved many interesting behind-the-scenes features, such as deduplication of similar data from several sources using fuzzy matching and similarity scoring algorithms, scheduling user-driven batch processes, and generating graphs, charts, and reports.

Collaborative Software Initiative, Portland, Oregon
The Collaborative Software Initiative promotes a unique, team-based approach to software development in many different business fields. End Point has worked with CSI in product selection, system configuration, and software development in the financial services and public health sectors, to build data collection and warehousing systems based on open source projects such as Cassandra and Pentaho. We’ve also worked with CSI engineers to build powerful Ruby-based tools for modeling with Cassandra. Our engineers work as a part of the CSI team, and integrate into their agile software development team processes.

FrozenCPU is one of the leading online retailers of PC modification supplies. End Point began working with FrozenCPU in 2006. We develop new features for both their front-end and back-end systems, and handle their day-to-day system administration and hosting. FrozenCPU is a custom-built site running on Interchange and MySQL which we have integrated with 3rd-party systems. We have also improved their fulfillment process, created a payment module for JetPay, and added many new ecommerce features.

Gear.com offers outdoor gear expertise and product information and aims to serve as the premier outdoor gear information hub. Gear.com runs on a complex mixture of technologies to combine the best content management system, site search, and web application framework for their needs. End Point has helped to develop and support custom themes and plugins for WordPress, a Ruby on Rails application to handle product listing, a Rails frontend application to integrate Omniture SiteSearch, and several PHP and Perl applications. We have also applied our PostgreSQL and system administration expertise to improve Gear.com’s performance.

Phish.net (The Mockingbird Foundation), Queensbury, New York
The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community. Their web presence centers around the popular community site Phish.net, which gets heavy bursts of traffic around Phish events, and their busy web service API. End Point helped move Phish.net to new hardware and configure it for good performance.

Dean’s Beans is a retail coffee site that advocates and sells fair-trade coffee to connoisseurs. End Point took over hosting and support for their ecommerce site a few years ago. JackThreads.com, Columbus, Ohio
JackThreads.com is a members-only online retailer selling top-tier contemporary streetware for men. We worked with JackThreads’ engineers to refactor major portions of their original PHP application into the CakePHP MVC framework, and instituted unit tests in their application. Other work has included performance analysis and optimization for both raw page speed and scalability, system administration for their production and development servers, and expansion of their sales and offering design to improve the flexibility with which products can be offered for sale. We also have integrated their online systems with several third-party services, including Atandra to allow for management of products and sales through QuickBooks, and integration with Thrillist.com.

Survival International, London, United Kingdom
Survival International is a non-profit organization that supports tribal groups worldwide in education, advocacy, and campaigns. End Point developed Survival International’s a Spree-based ecommerce site with custom theme integration and shopping cart customization including discounts, donations, and gift wrap options, described more in this blog post. Survival International contributed back to the Spree community with a product options extension derived from the work for Survival International.
