Brian is a highly capable systems architect, specializing in web application and system daemon development utilizing Perl and SQL. His experience is wide-ranging and spans programming, database design, Linux (Unix) administration, encryption, networking, and open source technologies.

Recent Projects

Postcard Press Mailing Services - Postcard Press wanted to give customers the option to have Postcard Press not only print out direct mail pieces, but also then go ahead and mail them out. The new functionality required new interfaces for customers and customer service representatives. The completed project has increased Postcard Press's service offering and given the company a substantial tool for generating new revenue.

Michael C. Fina Landing Pages - Michael C. Fina wanted to offer customers the most relevant landing page when they arrived at the retail site. This project allowed the company to design unique landing pages that provides users not only with relevant information, but also with interactive polls and other tools.

Soft Goods Downloads for National Braille Press - NBP wanted to offer customers the ability to download software products from its site -- previously, customers had to order software on CD-ROMs. By adding the means for software download and payment, NBP gained an easier, less-expensive distribution method that allows their customers to receive the product much more quickly than they could through the mail. The project also included coding for automated e-mail notifications for subscription expirations and renewals.

Previous Experience

Programmer/Analyst II for Sallie Mae from 2002 to 2005. Design, architecture, development, and maintenance of a high availability multi-tasking encrypted file transfer application.

Web Application Developer for Nucleus Communications from 1996 to 2001. Web application development including architecture of reusable content management systems in Perl (with MySQL database integration), ASP development (with Microsoft SQL Server integration), HTML coding, server administration and project management.

Personal

Once an avid soccer player, Brian can now most often be found playing ultimate frisbee or disc golf or on the ski slopes. He also enjoys travel, reading, movies, photography, and playing devil's advocate.
