Selena has 10 years of experience as an information technology specialist in high tech, government, and manufacturing. She has 8 years of experience with Perl development, and she's worked as a network engineer, systems administrator, software developer and IT manager. She founded and runs the Portland PostgreSQL Users Group and is an active member of the PostgreSQL Global Development Group.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system implementation. Completed project management and data migration from a Mac OS 9-based system to a PostgreSQL server and C++/Qt client system on Mac OS X, for Chris King Precision Components.

Barcode and labeling printing system. Wrote a Perl-based printing system using Zebra printers to integrate with a serial number tracking system.

Designed and implemented a TDM-over-IP network to replace T1 circuits at Tigard Tualatin School District, saving the district $10k per year and utilizing existing, unused bandwidth.

Information Systems Manager at Chris King Precision Components, a bicycle parts manufacturer recognized as the world leader in bicycle headset manufacturing. For four years, Selena managed people and projects related to IT infrastucture. Major projects included an ERP system migration, a website overhaul, internal software design and implementation, and embedded systems deployment. She was closely involved in core business practices, designing a company-wide project planning and tracking system, and helped define the core values and mission statement for the company.

Senior Network and Linux Administrator at Tigard-Tualatin School District, a district of 16 schools about 10 miles south of Portland, Oregon. Selena managed IT-related construction projects for 12 different schools in a single year. She replaced aging Ethernet hubs with Cisco and HP equipment at every school. She also wrote grants and won funding for infrastructure upgrades that reduced the ongoing cost of providing telephone services to the district.

Network Engineer at Intel Corporation. Selena worked from 1999 to 2003 in Engineeering Computing for the Desktop Products Group, where she wrote Perl applications to manage network devices and designed network configurations for rapidly expanding chip design centers. She participated in the network design of a chip development campus in Penang, Malaysia, and worked on several construction projects in the Hillsboro, Oregon, area.

Selena enjoys cooking, gardening for her cooking, tending to her two chickens, and volunteering in her local community. She writes regularly for blogs and magazines on topics related to women in technology, PostgreSQL, leadership, and managing user groups. She also enjoys traveling with her husband, Scott, and is trying to learn enough Spanish to speak with all her fluent co-workers and neighbors.
