 The Situation
  Bullet Point
Reliable Medical was hosted on a dedicated server at another provider, and it needed a major update to remain secure. The host came to the conclusion that it would be best to move to a new server. Reliable Medical needed assurance that their Interchange website would run properly on the new server, with the control panel, web server, and database that their host was planning to install. Their host is not familiar with Interchange and how to set it up on a server that uses the Plesk control panel software, so End Point took the lead on this migration. Due to changes in the way Plesk is set up, End Point also needed to update the Stone Edge order fulfillment software connector.
 End Point's Solution
  Bullet Point
A virtual private server (VPS) was installed by the host with the same version of all the software that would eventually be installed on the new server, creating a near-identical environment that End Point could use to test a copy of Reliable Medical’s site on. That meant migrating the website, Interchange, and the database, and configuring a local version of Perl and its supporting modules that are needed by Interchange to function properly. A major obstacle was getting Interchange to coexist with the nonstandard Plesk-installed virtual website. Once that was resolved and the site was fully tested, Reliable’s host set up a new server where the final migration would take place. End Point then followed the migration plan made during the test run on the virtual private server, and reproduced the environment on the new server.

Next, Reliable Medical asked End Point to also configure their order fulfillment software to work properly on the new server, since the original contractor for this software had moved on to another job and would be unavailable. Although End Point did not have experience with this software, Reliable was confident that End Point could pinpoint the issues and resolve them in a timely manner. Some of the issues faced were allowing the software to make system calls to GnuPG for encryption and decryption, rewriting parts of the software to work with Plesk’s higher security restrictions on PHP files and working with the way Plesk sets certain environment variables.
 The Results
  Bullet Point
With End Point’s expertise in Interchange and system administration, Reliable was able to move from an outdated slower system to a new secured server with very little downtime. Reliable also was able to turn to End Point for help with the migration of other software due to End Point’s diverse engineering team and their ability to evaluate and fix problems in a timely manner.
