Interchange FAQ

» What does Interchange do?
Interchange is a highly flexible, extensible, and scalable web application platform designed for running e-commerce and content-focused websites for businesses of all sizes.
» How is End Point related to Interchange?
End Point employs more Interchange developers than any other consulting firm. Four of these (Jon Jensen, Mark Johnson, Ethan Rowe, and Daniel Browning) are members of Interchange's core developer team, which includes many other developers with other affiliations. End Point does not "own" Interchange -- Interchange is free software available under the GNU General Public License.
» How much does Interchange cost?
Because Interchange is open-source software released under the GNU General Public License, there are no licensing fees, set-up fees, maintenance fees, subscription fees, or any other sort of fees to be paid for the software. We charge for our time and labor required to set up and maintain the Interchange-based website.
» How scalable is Interchange?
Interchange is extremely scalable, capable of handling millions of products and hundreds of thousands of transactions on a daily basis.
» Who uses Interchange?
Interchange has been used for small-, medium-, and large-sized websites for e-commerce and other purposes. Some of End Point's Interchange clients include Backcountry.com, CityPass, Michael C. Fina, Giftnet Online, Postcard Press, and many others.
» How long does it take to learn Interchange?
Interchange comes with a robust, simple-to-use, web-based administrative interface that allows website owners to easily make updates and additions to their websites. Further, this interface can be built out in order to add single-point access to new features that may be custom-programmed for a site.
» Is Interchange secure?
Interchange has been developed to conform to the highest standards of website security.
» What databases does Interchange work with?
Interchange integrates natively with almost any relational database, using Perl's powerful DBI database driver abstraction layer. The commonly-used Interchange Standard catalog works natively with PostgreSQL and MySQL, and can be modified to work with Oracle and other database systems.
» How long has Interchange been around?
Interchange has been under continuous development since 1995. It was originally called "MiniVend" and in 2000 absorbed another web application framework called "Tallyman". The combination of these was named Interchange.
» Is Interchange stable?
Regardless of what kind of site it's used for, Interchange has been developed to provide maximum site stability.
