Chris hopkins

Chris has worked as a systems administrator, IT consultant, and manager in industries ranging from law and advertising to renewable energy and publishing, and in the process has developed a broad range of proficiency across platforms, technology stacks, systems, and processes.

He got his start in technology writing QBasic adventure games while still in elementary school. By high school, he had moved on to building and repairing PCs for his classmates, as well as writing his band’s website in PHP/​MySQL and hosting the site on a recycled Packard Bell computer running in his bedroom closet.


IT Consultant, Chris Hopkins Consulting, 2013–2018. Sole project manager, web developer, and IT consultant for companies ranging from Canada’s largest renewable energy producer to various San Francisco-based dispensaries. Full stack designer/​developer of custom responsive LAMP dispensary CMS with POS, Odoo, and inventory integrations. Special expertise in building, upgrading, and maintaining ExpressionEngine sites.

IT Manager, Dreamworks/​AwesomenessTV, 2016–2017. Sole IT resource for New York City branch of Los Angeles-based digital media startup. Deployed a Cisco Meraki network stack and rolled out RingCentral phones for full company-wide Google Apps / G Suite integration.

IT Consultant, Synoptek, 2014–2016. Website development, project management, and ongoing support for clients including financial services groups, event spaces, and various retail/​manufacturing groups. Focus on PHP5, MySQL, jQuery, and AJAX.

Systems Engineer, Rocket Science, 2010–2014. Comprehensive IT consulting and management for clients including law firms, publishers, startups, venture capital firms, and advertising/​digital agencies. Specializing in mail migrations, Active Directory / Windows Server environments, and site-to-site website migrations.

Systems Administrator, UC Santa Cruz, 2006–2010. Provided comprehensive IT support to the Bay Tree Bookstore office complex, including maintaining and updating website code and content.

Chris is an avid musician, and at any given moment is usually involved in a couple bands. He is undefeated at Yoshi’s Cookie for the NES. He enjoys pizza, punk rock, riding his bicycle through Brooklyn, and the occasional game of Dungeons & Dragons.
